The Oyo State House of Assembly has directed the House Committee on Education to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, TESCOM, SUBEB, and other stakeholders in the education sector. The goal is to develop a plan for adopting digital lesson notes in primary and secondary schools across Oyo State.
Honorable Dele Adeola, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju at the Oyo State House of Assembly, moved the motion titled “Need to Digitalize Education Management System in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in the State through Institutionalization of E-Lesson Notes for Teachers for Effective Service Delivery.”
Adeola emphasized the need to phase out traditional lesson note writing, which has become obsolete and doesn’t align with global standards. He noted that teachers in Oyo State have been duplicating manual lesson notes for decades, rather than utilizing their time for research, updating themselves with e-learning materials, and adjusting to a tech-driven world.
Adeola stressed that adopting e-lesson notes would improve efficiency, reduce teachers’ workload, and enhance student engagement. He cited examples of Southwest states like Lagos, Ogun, and Ekiti, as well as Edo and Kaduna, which have successfully implemented e-lesson platforms.
Honorable Gbenga Oyekola, representing Atiba State Constituency, supported the motion, commending Adeola’s submission. Oyekola emphasized that Oyo State, as a pacesetter, cannot afford to lag behind in adopting innovation.
Honorable Dawood Akanni D-Alameen, representing Ibadan NorthWest State Constituency, highlighted reports of teachers experiencing psychological imbalance due to the strenuous and archaic lesson plan. He urged the House to take drastic measures to relieve teachers from manual lesson planning.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, commended Adeola and resolved that the House Committee on Education should collaborate with the Ministry of Education and stakeholders to develop a plan for adopting digital lesson plans.
