The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Oyo State chapter, has commended governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for declaring Hijrah 1448AH as work free day.
The organisation made this declaration via a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Alhaji Daud Afolabi.
The statement was made available to journalists on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Recall that Makinde had on Monday declared tomorrow (Tuesday) as work free day to mark the beginning of 1448AH Hijrah.
Afolabi in his reaction, commended the governor for the approval.
He extended his profound appreciation to Makinde, for declaring Tuesday, 16th June 2026, a work-free day across the state in commemoration of the Hijrah 1448AH, the Islamic New Year.
Afolabi in the statement said “The Islamic New Year, Hijirah 1448AH, marks the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah, an event that symbolizes sacrifice, faith, perseverance, unity, and the triumph of righteousness over adversity. It presents an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on their relationship with Allah, renew their commitment to noble values, and contribute positively to societal development.
“NACOMYO particularly appreciates His Excellency’s call on residents of the state to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity, security, and prosperity of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. At this critical period in our nation’s history, collective prayers and responsible citizenship remain indispensable for sustainable progress.
“As part of activities lined up to commemorate the Hijirah 1448AH celebration, NACOMYO, Oyo State Chapter, has organised a week-long programme aimed at promoting spiritual growth, youth development, family values, and national cohesion”.
Afolabi also added that the organisation has a one-week long programmes to mark the new Islamic year which include.
“Special Prayer Session. Date: Sunday, 14th June, 2026. Venue: Oja Oba Central Mosque, Ibadan. A special prayer session was held to seek Allah’s blessings, guidance, protection, and mercy upon Oyo State and Nigeria. The gathering also offered prayers for leaders at all levels and for lasting peace across the country.
“Children’s Day Programme. Date: Tuesday, 16th June, 2026. Time: 9:00 a.m. Venue: Oja Oba Central Mosque, Ibadan. The future of every society lies in its children. This programme is designed to nurture Islamic morals, educational excellence, discipline, and leadership qualities among children through enlightening and engaging activities.
“Special Usrah Programme. Date: Wednesday, 17th June, 2026
Time: 4:30 p.m. Venue: Oja Oba Central Mosque, Ibadan. The Usrah programme will provide an avenue for Islamic learning, reflection, mentorship, and discussions on contemporary challenges affecting Muslim youths and families, with practical guidance rooted in Islamic teachings.
“Educational and Women’s Programmes. Thursday, 18th June, 2026. (a) Quiz Competition for Secondary School Students. Time: 9:00 a.m.
Venue: Oja Oba Central Mosque, Ibadan. The competition seeks to encourage academic excellence, deepen knowledge of Islam, and promote healthy intellectual engagement among secondary school students across the state. (b) Women’s Day Programme
Time: 4:30 p.m.Venue: Oja Oba Central Mosque, Ibadan.
“Recognising the indispensable role of women in nation-building and family development, this programme will address issues relating to motherhood, moral upbringing, community service, and women’s contributions to societal advancement.
“Special Jumu’ah Service. Date: Friday, 19th June, 2026. Venue: Mosques across Oyo State. Special Jumu’ah sermons and prayers will be observed in mosques throughout the state. Imams and worshippers will offer supplications for peace, security, economic prosperity, and divine intervention in the affairs of the nation.
“Grand Finale and Special Prayer. Date: Sunday, 21st June, 2026. Time: 10:00 a.m. Venue: Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan. The grand finale will bring together Muslim faithful, religious leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, youths, women, and members of the public in a historic gathering of prayers and thanksgiving.
“Special prayers will be offered for: The peace, progress, and development of Oyo State; The unity and stability of Nigeria; The safety and well-being of all citizens; Divine guidance for leaders at all levels; and The immediate release and safe return of the kidnapped victims in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, as well as comfort and strength for their families”.
Afolabi while speaking further advised Muslims in the state to actively participate in the programmes.
He said, “NACOMYO hereby calls on all Muslim organisations, youth groups, educational institutions, community associations, and the general public to participate actively in the Hijirah 1448AH programmes. The celebration should serve as a period of spiritual renewal, reconciliation, compassion, and renewed commitment to the values of justice, peaceful coexistence, and service to humanity.
“As we enter the new Islamic year, may Allah (SWT) forgive our shortcomings, accept our acts of worship, strengthen our faith, and grant our state and nation abundant peace, security, and prosperity. Once again, we sincerely thank His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for the thoughtful declaration of a work-free day in honour of Hijirah 1448AH and for fostering an environment where every faith community can freely celebrate its religious heritage.
