The Accord Party has formally uploaded the name of Prince Ibrahim Asawale Oloyede Asanike, son of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Yesufu Oloyede Asanike, as its candidate for Ibadan Southeast Constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The confirmation came on Wednesday following the upload of his name on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, candidate nomination portal. A copy of the listing was obtained by journalists in Ibadan.
Asanike, a grassroots politician and businessman, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, earlier this year to join Accord. He is a close ally of Dr Oriyomi Hamzat, the Ibadan-based broadcaster and Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM, who is also the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State.
Party sources said Asanike’s decision to pitch tent with Accord was influenced by his long-standing relationship with Hamzat and the party’s focus on people-centered governance.
Since joining the party, the royal scion has been mobilizing support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition across Ibadan, leveraging his family name and community ties.
Speaking after his confirmation, Asanike expressed gratitude to Hamzat, party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to prioritize education, youth empowerment, security, and infrastructural development if elected.
“I am humbled by this opportunity to serve my people. Ibadan Southeast deserves quality representation that will bring real development and give our youths a voice,” he said.
Political observers say Asanike’s royal background, combined with his grassroots engagement, positions him as a strong contender in the race. Party stakeholders described his emergence as a boost for Accord in the constituency, noting that his name recognition and connection to the people could give the party an edge.
