The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) delegates conference in Oyo State is generating significant buzz, with aspirant Comrade Ibrahim Olaiya recently meeting with Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin.
The meeting, which included Olaiya’s team, the NULGE Integrity Group, aimed to discuss the upcoming congress and the state government’s support for NULGE.
During the visit, Olaiya praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support of NULGE and local government staff, particularly highlighting the recent conversion of ad-hoc workers to permanent staff.
However, he also expressed concerns about potential threats to delegates who may not vote for specific candidates.
In response, Speaker Ogundoyin reassured Olaiya and his team that the state government would ensure a level playing field for the congress and would not tolerate any form of intimidation.
He emphasized that the government is committed to supporting its local government employees.
In light of these assurances, Comrade Olaiya pledged that the election would proceed smoothly and without issues, setting a positive tone for the upcoming congress.
The meeting highlights the importance of open dialogue between aspiring union leaders and government officials in ensuring a democratic and transparent electoral process.
The development is seen as a significant step towards a fair and unhindered election, with the state government demonstrating its commitment to supporting its local government employees.
