The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the names of candidates nominated by some political parties for the Oorelope State Constituency seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly election, with the name of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate conspicuously missing.
The development was observed on Friday at the INEC office in Oorelope Local Government Area, where the names of candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement(APM) , African Democratic Congress (ADC) , Social Democratic Party (SDP) , Accord Party and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) , among others, were displayed.
Among the candidates listed is Jimoh Adisa Olabisi, popularly known as JAO, who was listed as the APM candidate for the Oorelope State Constituency.
However, the name of the APC candidate was not contained in the list displayed at the time of filing this report, sparking questions among political stakeholders in the local government ahead of the 2027 elections.
Checks by our correspondent showed that the omission had generated political tension in the area, particularly among supporters of the APC and other political parties.
A source close to the electoral commission, however, explained that the absence of the APC candidate’s name from the displayed list was due to an error and would be corrected.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC had yet to publicly display the name of the APC candidate for the Oorelope State Constituency seat on the notice board.
The development is coming amid controversies surrounding the APC’s nomination process in the constituency, with political observers closely watching developments over the party’s eventual candidate for the 2027 poll.
