In an attempt to prevent breakdown of law and order, the authorities of the University of Ibadan have postponed the 2016/2017 first semester examinations. Students of the institution have also been ordered to vacate campus.
A statement by the institution’s director of public communication, Olatunji Oladejo, stated that the postponement and closure became necessary following the protest by students of the institution.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances that surrounded the students of the University of Ibadan taking their agitations outside the campus to the main road: Ojoo/Sanngo/UI Road, management, in an attempt to forestall any unpleasant development, decided to postpone the first semester examinations 2016/2017 to 17 July, 2017.
“All undergraduate students are advised to vacate their halls of residence by 6.00pm of Monday, 29 May, 2017 while postgraduate students are expected to remain on campus to continue their research activities.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, has convened an emergency meeting of the University Senate for 12noon tomorrow Tuesday, 30 May, 2017 to review the circumstances that led to the current development,” the statement reads.
