Beyioku Akere Palace in Mapo/Oritamerin, Ibadan, was adorned with warmth and enlightenment on Monday as the Beyioku Akere Royal Dynasty opened its doors to the general public for their 7th annual Ramadan Lecture.
Delivered by Fadilat Sheikh Alhaji Muhammad Qozeem Ajisafe Akilapa, the lecture focused on the theme of ‘Betrayal and Reward’.
Sheikh Akilapa, in his lecture, described betrayal as a dagger disguises in friendship and inflicts wounds deeper than enemies’ swords. He added that It corrodes the bonds of trust, leaving behind scars that may never heal.
His words: “Insubordination births betrayal and all other vices, while loyalty cultivates trust and rewards. Let us guard our hearts against the venom of betrayal, for it poisons not only relationships but also the soul.”
The Chief Host, Pa Fasasi Titiloye Akere, head of the Beyioku Akere Family, echoed sentiments of unity and condemned betrayal.
He said that: “In times of adversity, it is unity that sustains us. Yet, betrayal, seeks to divide us from within. Let us stand firm against its insidious whispers and forge bonds stronger than steel. For in unity, we find strength, and in strength, we find resilience against betrayal.”
Father of the day, Alhaji Chief Nureni Akanbi Adebayo (J.P), Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadan Land, also called for unity among the people and politicians.
He said: “My dear brethren, in the tumultuous sea of politics and society, it is unity that serves as our anchor, holding us steady against the treacherous waves of betrayal. Let us set aside our differences and stand as one, for united we stand, divided we fall.”
Addressing journalists, Prince Okunola Olasunkanmi Abdul Wasiu Akere, Arole Beyioku Akere, highlighted the significance of the annual Ramadan lecture, a tradition spanning seven years.
He said: “This lecture has not only enlightened our minds but also nourished our souls, continuing the tradition of gathering people during this period. This month is a time for forgiveness and mercy. To foster the growth of our community during Ramadan, we have decided to unite people and organize programs like this to enrich the soul.
“Additionally, we provide meals throughout the month. Our vision is to seek God’s presence in our community, work, and other aspects of life.”
Speaking on the theme, he stated, “‘Everyone knows that he who betrays will face consequences.’ This theme is prompted by the prevalent betrayal within the Akere dynasty. With betrayal rampant, we felt compelled to address the issue through this topic.”
Some other special guests present included Chief (Mrs.) Basirat Olaide Ajibola, Iyalode Aare Onibon of Ibadan Land, Chief Odunade Adewuyi Muibi (Asaju Olubadan of Ibadan Land), and Chief (Barr.) Ayanlowo Obisesan (Asaju Balogun of Ibadan Land).
