The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) of the University of Ibadan (UI) kicked off five-day warning strike on Monday.
The strike paralysed activities of the University of Ibadan (UI) as protesters blocked the gates of the institution to prevent free vehicular movements in and out.
The unions said it would embark on a five-day nationwide warning following the failure of the Nigerian government to meet their demands after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum.
Wale Akinremi, the Chairman of SSANU said the strike would continue after the warning strike except their demands were met.
The leadership of the unions accused the government of failing to show firm commitment towards resolving the issues raised by the unions including the payment of earned allowances to members.
The demands of the unions included the payment of their earned allowances, the university staff schools’ matter, and the renegotiation of the 2019 federal government’s agreement with the unions.
Others are university staff schools matter and the renegotiation of 2009 Agreements.
