Saki students on Thursday embarked on a peaceful demonstration to the palace of Okere of Saki over rising rape cases in the state.
In a statement made available to InsideOyo.com on Friday, the leader of the protest, Olanrewaju Abiodun Emmanuel, described the menace of rape as an alarming case which needs urgent proactive measures to curb by the government.
They took the protest to streets and the King’s Palace, displaying placards for viewers who came to witness the collection of staff of the Okere of Saki before the arrival of some dignitaries like the Chief of Staff of Oyo state Alhaji BISI ILAKA who represented the Governor of the State, also the chief judge of Oyo state Justice Abimbola, Commissioner for LG and Chieftaincy matters in the state, also Commissioner for commerce who is a Saki indigene, also member house of assembly representing Saki West HON Femi Julius, and other.

In the last few weeks, two students in Oyo state have been killed over rape allegations.
Azeezat Shomuyiwa, a postgraduate student of the University of Ibadan was reportedly raped and murdered in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The police confirmed the murder but denied that the victim was raped.
Ms Shomuyiwa’s case happened barely 48 hours after 18-year-old Barakat Bello was gang-raped and murdered by unknown assailants in the same Ibadan.
Ms Bello was a student of Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Federal College of Animal Health and Production in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
