The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, has dispelled rumours that that the alleged attack on some cows at Alafara community at Ologuneru area of Ibadan, the state capital is linked with the clash between Yoruba and Fulani ethnic tribes.

Onadeko in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi revealed that the police got information from a member of the public that some suspected person(s) had invaded a cow settlement at Alafara community, Ologuneru area, shooting at some cows.

The statement added that immediately the information was received, police teams were drafted to the area to ascertain the immediate and remote cause of the incident.

The command added that Investigation into the incident has commenced while the police are on the trail of the perpetrators(s) of the dastardly act.

The Commissioner of Police declared that the incident has nothing to do with Fulani/Yoruba clash while she implored the people of Oyo State and the general public to disregard any insinuations from any quarters.

Onadeko added that the relative peace being enjoyed by residents of the state should not be disrupted in any way by disgruntled elements.

She reiterated the commitment of the officers and men of the Command to continue to protect lives and property, while she solicited for constant and credible information from the members of the public, to enable the police serve them better.

The release read: “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Ngozi Onadeko, fdc wishes to state that upon information received from a good spirited member of the public that some suspected person(s) today 20/02/2021 at about 0720 hrs, invaded a cow settlement at Alafara community Ologuneru area of Ibadan and fired some cows.

“The CP wishes to further state that immediately the incident happened, Police teams were drafted to the area to ascertain the immediate and the remote cause of the incident, and investigation had been ordered immediately into the incident, while the Police are on the trail of the perpetrators(s) of the dastardly act.

“Consequent upon this, the CP says it is wordy of note that the incident has nothing to do with Fulani/Yoruba clash and implored the people of Oyo State and the general public to disregard any insinuations from any quarters, while the relative peace being enjoyed by the good citizens of the State should not be allowed to be tampered with in any way by disgruntled elements.

“The CP reiterated the commitment of the Officers and men of the Command to continue to protect lives and property of the peace loving people of the State. She further solicits constant and reliable credible information from the members of the public to enable the Police serve them better.”
