The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, has condoled with the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan indigenes, and the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, on the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
In a condolence message, Oba Olugbon described the late monarch’s reign as short but eventful, marked by compassion, peace, and a commitment to promoting harmonious coexistence among indigenes and settlers.
The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon also commended the late Olubadan’s initiative, “Toilets in Agbole,” aimed at ending open defecation in Ibadan, saying it was a lofty move that would have had a significant impact on the city’s development.
Oba Olakulehin’s contributions to the development of Ibadan will be remembered for generations to come, the monarch added.
The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon prayed for the repose of the late Olubadan’s soul and urged the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan indigenes, and the Oyo State Government to find solace in the memories of the monarch’s achievements.
The statement read: “On behalf of the good people of Orile-Igbon, and my family, I condole with members of the Olubadan-In-Council and all Ibadan indigenes on the transition of the Olubadan of Ibadan land Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
“I also condole with the Executive Governor of Oyo State His Excellency Engr. Oluseyi Makinde on Kabiyesi’s demise.
“I received the news that Kabiyesi joined his ancestors with surprise on Monday.
“In his short but eventful reign, Oba Olakulehin upheld the tradition of the city, ruled with compassion, and promoted harmonious co-existence among indigenes and settlers. He was a man of peace and maintained the honour and dignity of the palace.
“His special project tagged ‘Toilets in Agbole’ which aimed at building toilets in traditional family compounds was a lofty move at ending open defecation in Ibadan.
“His contributions to the development of Ibadan will occupy a good place in the history of the city. “
