Wild jubilations as the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency, Professor Victor Edo declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olumide Ojerinde, as the winner of the House of Representatives election.
Ojerinde, the son of the former JAMB Registrar, polled 18,178 to defeat his closest challenger and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Honourable Michael Okunlade, who polled 11,251 while the candidates of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Yinusa Sanni and Hon. Lukman Balogun, scored 9,960 and 7,393 votes respectively.
In a short victory speech, Ojerinde maintained that his victory in the election was an endorsement for progressive politics, saying it was the first time the progressives would win all 10 wards in Oorelope Local Government.
Ojerinde, aged 35, is the youngest elected member of the House of Representatives in the history of the constituency.
