Rising from its meeting, University of Ibadan AT 70 Anniversary Committee has frowned at what it called reckless commercialization of the university name and logo by some elements who are desperate to latch on the coming celebration to make money, just as it cautioned the alumni in patronizing those going about conducting interviews for their purported magazines with exorbitant advertisement charges.
The Committee Chairman (Internal), Prof. Ambrose Emilolorun Aiyelari who gave this warning after some of the Committee members complained about the reckless commercialization of the University’s name and logo by some people, printing various souvenirs without authorization, said it was illegal for people to take the name and logo of the University to the market for personal gain .
Again, the Committee’s Chairman cautioned the alumni in patronizing some dubious people who go about conducting interviews for publication in their so-called Magazine on UI AT 70, charging exorbitant amount of money for advertisement in a magazine that has no circulation strength, saying they had duped the university in the past, and they are at it again.
Prof. Aiyelari who noted with dismay the level of desperation by these elements to make money at all costs wondered why nothing was so sacred for them to desecrate in the name of money.
“University of Ibadan is a prestigious brand, and we will not allow these unscrupulous elements to bastardize the name and logo with certain spineless publications and printings without due authorization by the University’s authorities”, he said, calling on the alumni to verify with the university before putting their money into any venture on the anniversary.
