The recent incidents in Anambra and Abuja, which resulted in the loss of lives, have once again highlighted the need for collective attention and action to address the widespread poverty and hunger in the country.
According to Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, Babalaje of Ogbomoso land and Giwa Adinni of Oyo state, the challenges faced by many individuals and families in Nigeria should not deter those who have the means to give from doing so.
He made this known in a writeup while reacting to the tragedies in Abuja and Anambra.
Salawu emphasized the need for proactive planning and prioritization of health and safety.
The Waziri Jari of Nupe Kingdom also stressed the importance of localizing gift distribution to target specific areas and communities where needs are most pressing.
Salawu, who recently distributed ₦5,000 each to 100 individuals in Ogbomoso and provided ₦1 million each to 5 recipients to support their business ventures, said that his experience reinforced his commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
He attributed the success of the initiative to meticulous planning, which included identifying recipients, making advance contact, and ensuring a seamless and secure process on the day of the event.
The statement read: “The recent incidents in Anambra and Abuja are stark reminders that many individuals face significant challenges and struggle to make ends meet. These issues transcend geographical boundaries, affecting people far beyond Ibadan. The problems are widespread and warrant collective attention and action.
“The challenges we face shouldn’t deter those who have the means to give from doing so. Instead, they should be more proactive and prioritize health and safety in their planning. Moreover, it’s essential to localize gift distribution, targeting specific areas and communities where needs are most pressing.
“Given the current state of affairs, it’s clear that hardly any place lacks individuals or families in dire need of support. I strongly believe that the organizers of these events in Ibadan, Abuja, and Anambra never intended for the tragic loss of lives to occur. Unfortunately, our societal norms often lead to a lack of accountability and a tendency to shift blame.
“Personally, I recently distributed ₦5,000 each to 100 individuals in Ogbomoso. Additionally, I provided ₦1 million each to 5 of these recipients to support their business ventures. This experience reinforced my commitment to making a positive impact in our community.
“We successfully executed this initiative by taking a proactive and organized approach. Prior to the distribution day, we identified recipients and made advance contact. On the day of the event, we ensured a seamless and secure process by:
– Inviting and accrediting recipients
– Providing distinctive face caps for unity and identification
– Conducting distribution in an open, public space
– Ensuring security personnel presence for order and safety
“This meticulous planning enabled us to achieve our goals efficiently and effectively.”
