The Oyo State Project Performance and Monitoring Agency recently conducted an inspection of the twin terminals project, a modern transportation system designed to cater to the needs of the masses.
The project, inspired by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia, aims to enhance the movement of people, goods, and services while fostering inter-city connectivity.
According to Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, Chairman of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency, the project is nearing completion and is expected to be commissioned by Governor Seyi Makinde soon.
The agency’s inspection was aimed at ensuring the project’s timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
The twin terminals, strategically located at Ojoo, Challenge, Ife Road, and Iwo Road in Ibadan, will serve as hubs for the Mass Transit Service, enhancing transportation in the city.
A pedestrian bridge connecting the two terminals will allow commuters to move safely between terminals without crossing the busy Ife Expressway dual carriageway.
The project is expected to benefit over 50,000 people, stimulate business growth, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
The terminals will feature modern amenities, including conveniences, lifts, and escalators, as well as open spaces for shop owners, showrooms, cinemas, and food courts.
The contractor, Messrs Planet Project Ltd, brings extensive experience to the project, having successfully built bus terminals in Lagos, Ekiti, and the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency’s inspection team was accompanied by Alhaji Tomiwa Omolewa, Chairman of the Park Management System (PMS), and Mr. Bayo Ojuri, the contractor’s representative.
The Oyo State Government’s commitment to utilizing data-driven approaches to inform decision-making is evident in this project, which is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economic development.
