The Oyo State Police Command has debunked reports circulating online that High Chief Tajudeen Abioye, the Elesinele of Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, was invited for questioning over the recent abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the community.
In a statement issued Tuesday, June 24, 2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command described the report as “false, unfounded, and misleading,” stressing that the traditional ruler was never invited in connection with the ongoing investigation.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that at no time was the said traditional ruler invited for questioning in relation to the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.
According to the police, the publication is part of a “deliberate campaign of misinformation and disinformation orchestrated by criminal elements” to create division, generate unnecessary tension, and undermine coordinated security efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted victims and prosecuting the perpetrators.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified information that could jeopardize security operations.
It reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders and security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims, and called on residents to provide credible and timely information through official channels.
