The Chairman of Atisbo Local Government, Hon. Alade Bashir Olumuyiwa, has appealed to residents of the council area to cooperate with authorities in the enforcement of a 48-hour curfew ordered by the Oyo State Government as part of efforts to strengthen security around the Old Oyo National Park.
In a circular issued on Wednesday, Olumuyiwa said the directive, approved by Governor Seyi Makinde, was aimed at safeguarding lives and property in communities surrounding the national park and enhancing ongoing security operations in the affected areas.
The chairman explained that the restriction would affect the movement of vehicles, commercial motorcycles and residents during the period of the curfew, which took effect on June 24, 2026.
According to him, all residents of Atisbo Local Government, including those living in Ago-Are, Tede, Irawo, Sabe, Baasi, Owo, Ofiki, Agunrege and neighbouring communities, are expected to comply strictly with the directive.
Olumuyiwa noted that the success of the security measure would depend largely on the cooperation of residents and community leaders, urging them to support government efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security in the area.
He also called on traditional rulers, members of traditional councils, transport unions, religious leaders, Community Development Councils, market associations, artisans, private school proprietors and other stakeholders to ensure that the directive is widely communicated to members of the public.
“The security of our communities remains a collective responsibility. We appeal to all residents to cooperate with security agencies and comply fully with the government’s directive in the interest of peace and public safety,” the chairman said.
He further urged traditional rulers across the local government to give the announcement the widest publicity possible to ensure full awareness and compliance among residents.
The chairman assured residents that the temporary restriction forms part of broader efforts by the state government to address security concerns in areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park and appealed for patience and understanding throughout the exercise.
He reiterated the commitment of the local government administration to supporting initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property, while urging residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant.
