Accord Party South-West leader, Mogaji Igbinsola Sunday, has expressed confidence that Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat will emerge as the authentic governorship candidate of the party in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election, insisting that his name will be uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
Igbinsola stated this on Saturday while appearing as a guest on “Gbangba Lasaata,” a political programme hosted by Abiodun Adewole, popularly known as “Mr. Double A,” and broadcast on Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Accord chieftain dismissed the controversy surrounding the party’s governorship ticket in the state, maintaining that the process that produced Hamzat was valid and that the broadcaster-turned-politician remains the recognised candidate of the party.
According to him, Accord stakeholders adopted a consensus arrangement for the governorship ticket, which led to the emergence of Oriyomi Hamzat as the party’s candidate.
“We did consensus for the governorship candidate, and it was Oriyomi Hamzat that emerged,” Igbinsola said.
He expressed confidence that the ongoing disagreement within the party would not affect Hamzat’s recognition by the electoral body, insisting that his name would be submitted and uploaded on the INEC portal.
“I am assuring you that as uploading of names commence on June 26, Oriyomi’s name will be uploaded on the INEC portal as the sole Accord candidate for the 2027 governorship election at the appropriate time according to INEC’s guidelines. I am so sure because INEC was there at our primary and even our party representatives were there,” he said.
Igbinsola further argued that the constitution of the party gives the national leadership the authority to forward the name of its recognised candidate to INEC.
“The national party chairman will be given code and he will upload the name on INEC’s portal by himself; so we are sure that Oriyomi’s name will appear,” he added.
The statement comes amid an internal crisis within Accord in Oyo State, with two factions laying claim to the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
One faction of the party is backing Oriyomi Hamzat, who has the support of the national chairman of Accord.
Igbinsola criticised Busari’s emergence, describing him as an individual allegedly working against the interest of the party.
“Goodu Goodu is a destructive instrument sent to destroy our party. We all know that he was sent by this current administration. He works with this current government and has been given road contracts. He was sent to destroy our party,” he alleged.
