Some group students of Ladoke Akintola Universitu of Technology Ogbomoso, supported by members of the National Association of Nogerian Studets (NANS) Monday morning shut down te institution to protest against the expulsion and suspension of 12 students.
The university’s main gate was shut down by the protesters as as early as 6:30am, preventing workers and other students from entering. This protest comes even as examinations start today.
Abdulafeez Adeoti, son of the immediate past Secretary to the State Government of Osun state government, Moshood Adeoti, was one of the students expelled over post-students union election violence in the school on June 13. The school management, after considering the report of a panel of inquiry into the violence, had expelled four students and placed eight on suspension.
The protesters say they want the immediate reinstatement of the suspended and expelled students, some of whom are in their final year.
The Student Union president, Oluwaseun Laurel, is having a hard time calming the demonstrators. Sources tell Newspeakonline he is not in support of the protest. A lot of the students also say they were not informed about the protest.
This protest comes just days after NANS kicked against the proposed increase in school fees. It is however not clear if today’s protest had anything to do with the school fees hike.
