An APC stalwart in Oyo state and member of the governing board of the Nigerian geological survey agency, Abuja, Hon Akeem Adetoyese ISHOLA has urged APC members in the 9th Oyo state House of Assembly to live up to their constitutional duty in the House.
Hon Ishola who also served as a member of the Presidential Campaign Council(Youth Wing) in the 2019 Presidential elections in which President Muhamodu Buhari defeated his rival and PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubarka, charged five APC members in the Oyo State House of Assembly to provide robust, research-based, comprehensive and constructive opposition in the engagement of affairs of the House.
He, however, condemned the actions of the newly appointed chairman of SUBEB for resuming to the office without the subsequent confirmation and ratification of the House. He urged members of the APC in the House to concentrate on their constitutional duty in the House assuring them APC would bounce back in the state in 2023 and urged those who had left the party to come back so that the party can be stronger enough to take power back in the nearest elections.
Hon. Adetoyese stated this in a open letter made available to InsideOyo.com on Sunday.
The letter below:
OPEN LETTER TO ALL APC MEMBERS IN THE OYO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.
THE NEED TO RISE UP TO THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES.
The primary constitutional duty of any member of the state or National Assembly is that of oversight and law-making. However, this primary constitutional duty must gear towards promoting development and advancement of the people and society at large.
The ninth Assembly was inaugurated by Oyo state Governor; Engr Seyi Makinde on Monday 10th June, 2019 at the Assembly complex Ibadan. Oyo State APC had 5 members who constituted minority in the House. It’s very instructive to note that Oyo State APC was blessed to have the person of Hon Ashimiyu Alarape as its minority leader who also happened to be one time speaker of the same House of Assembly. I think APC was very strategic enough to have made Hon Ashimiyu Alarape as its minority leader going by his astute experience as a former speaker to provide leadership roles for other members of the opposition in the House. It’s therefore unfortunate that APC lawmakers are beginning to lose their voice in the House. For instance, Governor Seyi Makinde recently announced the appointment of SUBEB chairman; Dr Nureni Adeniran and Dr Adeniran had since resumed office without the subsequent confirmation/ratification of the state assembly. However, none of the members of APC in the House of Assembly had been seen talking about this action.
I therefore urge Hon Ashimiyu Alarape and other APC members in the House to start living up to their constitutional duty and provide robust, research-based, comprehensive and constructive engagements in the affairs of the House.
They should know that they are now the face of the party in the state and I wish them well in their constitutional duty of law-making and oversight.
Signed:
Hon. Akeem Adetoyese Ishola
