A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Oyo state, Architect Hassan Olawale Giwa, has urged all well meaning Nigerians of voting age to embrace the party and ensure they all register as its card carrying members to enable them contribute their quota to the process of nation building in full.
This is coming as APC’s Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) on Monday announced the commencement of the party membership registration and revalidation.
The four weeks exercise has been scheduled to take place simultaneously in all the wards in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between December 12, 2020 and January 9, 2021.
Architect Giwa said, in a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Gbolahan Salaudeen, that the exercise would afford the APC another opportunity to put its house in order and thus focus on its genuine mission to build a new Nigeria as desired by all patriots and friends of the country universally.
“The mission of the APC to rediscover Nigeria and make it the true Giant of Africa is genuine and realistic. Despite the challenges of sponsored insecurity, global economic instability and pandemic, the five-and-a-half year-old administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has significantly demonstrated the courage, commitment and willingness to move the nation forward while the capacity to deliver on the APC’s campaign promises is still not in doubt.
“Pointedly, we have been made to see the giant strides recorded in the areas of infrastructural investment, aggressive drive towards food sufficiency, financial discipline, prudent management and equitable of resources, ceaseless provision of stimuli to citizens to free them from poverty, improved international relations, transparency in governance, responsiveness to emergency among others.
“With little or no recourse to the antics of the opposition and enemies of the nation, discerning minds are convinced that the government of the APC at the centre, which replaced that of the PDP in 2015 after 16 years, is the best thing to have happened to the country since 1960. It is on this premise that well meaning Nigerians at home and in the diaspora are being challenged to join hands with patriots in APC and make the broom party more formidable.” Giwa stated.
The Lagun-born graduate of Architecture has hinted that the planned membership registration and revalidation exercise of the APC would be hitch-free and results-oriented as “it offers another opportunity to entrench participatory democracy in the country. Also, the exercise would provide Oyo APC with another opportunity to put its house in order and mobilize all the available human resources to its advantage ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“Meanwhile, we are using this avenue to call on all the indigenes and residents of Oyo state including the good people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency to troop out en masse from December 12, 2020 to January 9, 2021 and participate actively in the membership registration and revalidation exercise of the APC to enable them write their names in gold.
“APC remains the only Progressive platform around and our people in all the fourteen and eleven wards of Lagelu and Akinyele local government councils respectively cannot afford to take the back seat. This is another time for them to rise up and be counted as Progressives and patriots which they have always been since the time of the sage- Chief Obafemi Awolowo.” Arch. Giwa concluded.
