The present efforts by some individuals to distort the history of Yoruba Nation has been seriously condemned by a social political group, the New Yoruba Nation Forum (NYNF).
A statement made by the group’s coordinator, Mr. Dauda Kolawole, to mark this year’s world cultural day, stated that the distortion not only destroys the history of the Yoruba nation, but also affects the tradition, culture and the language of the people.
According to him “Yoruba Nation, before now was a cultured race that was reasonably satisfied with their progression. As the Britons were adjudged the first class race in the white-skinned world, so also the Yoruba race was second to none among the black nations”.
“The present disease affecting the Yoruba nation started subtly in the minds of the few men of politics who shunned the procrastinating majority, in a fervent search for material conquest, thus leaving the race open to the incurable affliction of lust for greater power”. Kolawole continued.
He said the mental disease of selfishness and lust for power and material conquest affected only a few, the majority of the people were so lackadaisical that they allowed the disease to explode and became a force that affects generation after generation.
“Majority of the people, especially the press and broadcasters ignorantly engage in this act for material considerations without a recurse to a thorough researching into the historical roots of the subject”.
He charged the media outfits, both print and electronic, to redefine their motive and mode of operation to reflect selfless service to the people and to seek for adequate knowledge of happenings around the Globe for the benefit of all. identifying the outfit as the most important that make or mar a society.
“how many of these people realized that we are in a new Age? A new millennium. The Age of Aquarius. The Age of science that will be a return to oneness of all things”.
“Let the press do more of research journalism to avail himself with the right information, the right knowledge, with which the true Yoruba history can be gotten from the Timeless Book of Records. One can only give what one has, what you don’t have you can give “.
He reminded the political leaders of their grave responsibility to those who depend on them. “by every law of common decency, by every law of common good, the political leaders must not precipitate those condition which will bring suffering to the masses. If they do, they will be held responsible “. Kolawole added.
While calling for a Yoruba summit, Kolawole said “logic must prevail, must teach a true and informed Yoruba individual that to follow the old pattern of championing the cause of Yoruba Nation is folly. The need for a unique Yoruba summit of enlightened mind in a departure from the old ways cannot be over-emphasized”.
“If the country Nigeria must witness peace and unprecedented development, the Yoruba must be repositioned to lead the route”. Kolawole concluded.
