Following the rejection of the pay off deal by the Local Government, Local Council Development Chairpersons and Councilors under the aegis of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Oyo state chapter, insideoyo.com has obtained documents containing the new demand of association.
Recall that out of court settlement has been adopted by all parties involved in the local government crisis rocking the state.
According to the document obtained by insideoyo.com, the embattled Oyo ALGON, rather than accepting the financial pay off deal, wants the Seyi Makinde-led government to appoint two additional supervisory councilors and one Liason officer who will work together with the elected chairpersons and councilors in all the LGAs an LCDAs.
This demand, if accepted by the parties, will allow the sacked chairmen resumed office and complete their tenure.
It reads “In the overall interest of our dear state and to achieve a robust and participatory governance at the grass root, ALGON opined that the government *may appoint* additional TWO Supervisory Councilors, and ONE Liason Officer per LGA and LCDA, to the existing and already inaugurated appointed ones, to make government of all inclusive. ALGON believes this is ideal!”.
The embattled ALGON while explaining reason for rejection of the pay off deal said it against the constitution of the country to collect such money.
“ALGON considers it a disservice to the people of their respective Local Government Areas and the entire people of Oyo State to colect financial compensation as proposed in lieu of our constitutionally guaranteed tenure. ALGON is equally of the view that accepting financial compensation by way of calculated salary and severance allowance would amount to aiding the breach of the constitution and may also leads to violation of anticorruption law by collecting salaries and allowances for futuristic job tenure yet to be lived out .
“ALGON therefore resolved that the financial pay off proposed in the offers unacceptable to us hence we reiterate our resolve to complete our tenure as constitutionally guaranteed” it reads.
The association also appreciated the Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for recognizing the elected chairpersons and councilors by offering to pay them salaries and allowances.
“ALGON express appreciation to His Excellency, for recognizing and acknowledging our mandate as the democratically elected chairmen and councilors of the 33 local government councils and 35 LCDAs in Oyo state by offering to pay us salaries and allowances of due although this was coming from the 16 days after the initiative was moved on the 15th of February, 2020” it reads.
