The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State has dismissed reports alleging that no primary election was held for the House of Representatives seat on Saturday, 16th May 2026.
In a statement signed by Hon. Samuel Adegoke Okunlade, Chairman, and Hon. (Barr.) Muhammed Deji Abdulsalam, Secretary, of the APC Primary Election Electoral Panel, on Sunday, the party said a valid and peaceful primary was conducted at LA Primary School, Ebedi, Igboho, in line with the APC constitution and approved electoral guidelines.
The exercise was supervised and endorsed by the recognized local government leadership, led by Hon. Moshood Adejumobi, APC Local Government Chairman, and Mr. John Kolade, APC Local Government Secretary.
According to the statement, the primary was conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Panel headed by Hon. Samuel Adegoke Okunlade as Chairman and Hon. (Barr.) Muhammed Deji Abdulsalam as Secretary. Both officials said they were satisfied with the transparency, credibility, and orderly conduct of the process.
The election was witnessed by party stakeholders including Hon. Sunday Owoade, Hon. Asimi Alabi, and Lord Balogun, alongside accredited delegates and members from across the wards in Orelope LGA. Delegates were accredited, voting proceeded peacefully, and results were collated openly in accordance with party rules.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Hon. Olatubosun George Oladele emerged winner with 3,325 votes, defeating other aspirants. The party described the process as free, fair, and transparent, adding that the officially signed result sheet serves as verifiable evidence.
The APC leadership said individuals claiming that no primary held do not represent the official structure or recognized leadership of the party in Orelope LGA.
“Their statements are unauthorized, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary confusion within the party and among the general public,” the statement read. “The APC recognizes only duly constituted party organs and accredited officials empowered to speak on behalf of the party.”
The Orelope APC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and adherence to lawful procedures, saying the successful conduct of the primary reflects the collective will of members and stakeholders.
The party urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party faithful, and the public to disregard claims that the primary did not hold, insisting the process was legitimate and compliant with party and electoral regulations.
