From Awe, Akinmorin, Fiditi, Ilora, Jobele, Imini and other towns in AFIJIO local government, people trooped out en masse to witness the town hall meetng and constituency empowerment programme of the lawmaker representing the state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Oyeleke Oyatokun.
At the event which held at the council’s Jobele secretariat, many constituents went home with deep freezers, generators, sewing machines, standing hair dryers, milling machines, vulcanising machines, standing fans, gas cookers, marketing umbrella/coolers, spraying machines, hair clippers, as well as cash support.
Thanking the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, traditional, party, religious leaders as well as his constituents for their support, Oyatokun, who is the deputy majority leader of the Assembly, explained that ‘if Nigeria of our dream must become a reality, then we must grow our democracy with the required commitment. And if our democracy must be sustained, we must be ready to grow our people as well as the party. Indubitably, there is a strong tripatrite nexus between democracy, party and the people.
‘Being an elected representative of the people, I have the strongest conviction and clear understanding of the framework which places unequivocal premium on the people as the oxygen of democracy and their wellbeings as software of virile democracy,’ he added.
Apart from the empowerment tools, Oyatoku said he had distributed over two million naira in his monthly empowerment programme to over hundred beneficiaries, adding that ‘it is on record that over two thousand students have benefited from my yearly JAMB coaching exercise, the third edition is ongoing at coaching centres in Awe, Fiditi and Ilora.
He listed the 3 bills he has sponsored, over 50 executives and members’ bills that he has facilitated as well as close to 10 motions he has moved, adding that his activities cut across education, health, community services, religious and human capital development through financial and material donation.’
Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Adeyemo Michael Adeyemo, who was represented by his deputy, Barr. AbdulWasi Musah and other lawmakers which included Honourables Bolaji Badmus, Lukman Balogun, John Olaleru, Adekunle Safiriyu, Gbenga Oyekola, commended the lawmaker for not forgeting his constituents.
Member representing AFIJIO, Atiba, Oyo East, Oyo West in the House of Representatives, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi also thanked the lawmaker, saying the gesture shows that the Oyatokun has his people at heart.
