Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied People’s Movement (APM), signaling a major realignment in Oyo State politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defection was confirmed on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Akinwale Bodija, who told journalists that Oyekunle, popularly known as “DON,” is now a fully registered member of the APM.
“I can authoritatively confirm that Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON) is now officially and fully registered as a member of the Allied People’s Movement (APM),” Bodija said shortly after serving lawmakers who recently resigned from the PDP paid a strategic visit to the governorship candidate backed by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Bodija explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across Ibadan North Federal Constituency and beyond.
According to him, the switch is a “strategic political movement aimed at sustaining progressive and people-oriented representation for the good people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency.”
He added that the lawmaker and his political structure would, in the coming days, begin massive awareness and mobilisation across the constituency to sensitise supporters and residents on the new political direction.
Bodija described the move to APM as a reflection of the growing realignment within Oyo State politics. He stressed that Oyekunle remains committed to quality representation, grassroots development, and the welfare of his constituents despite the change in party platform.
The defection adds to a wave of high-profile exits from the PDP in Oyo State in recent months, as political actors reposition ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
