The Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has urged the governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to stop the persistent area boys clashes which often lead to destruction of lives and properties.
He made this known in a release signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade while reacting to avoidable mayhem in recent times particularly those that occurred in both Oja’gbo and Idi Arere areas of Ibadan Northeast and Ibadan South East recently.
Makinde said, “it is so sad that despite the huge amount of money claimed to have been spent by the government in the last eight years and the recent levies on security, the government has not been able to tame the bloodletting occasioned by area boys’ clashes which has characterized this regime especially in the last few years”.
While commiserating with the people who have been injured or lost their valuables, Engr. Makinde urged them to remain calm.
He appealed to the people of Ibadan, particularly the affected local governments who have been living in fear and anxiety to take solace in the fact that a new dawn is close by when such occurrence will be tackled proactively.
The police, on Sunday confirmed the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the crime.
On Sunday morning, InsideOyo.com reported how trouble started at Idi Arere in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when rival groups clashed leaving several houses, shops burnt.
It was later returned to normalcy after Police arrested more than 10 persons in connections to the attack.
The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 also swifty summoned an emergency meeting of all family heads in the areas concerned to his palace.
