As civil servants in Oyo State on Wednesday embarked on a three-day warning strike the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde has declared that civil servants in Oyo state and Nigeria deserved even higher pay than the N30,000 minimum wage they were presently agitated for
Engineer Makinde said this during a visit to the Oyo state office of the Nigerian Labor Congress,(NLC) in Ibadan during which he met with the leaders of various Labour union in the state to present his blueprint and plans for the state work force.
The PDP governorship candidate while speaking in solidarity with the three days warning strike embarked upon by civil servants over issue of welfare and non payment of arreas and allowances by the present administration, promised to engage the state work force productively and tackle poverty head long if voted into power.
Engineer Makinde stressed that in doing this, he will reposition the affairs of the state by putting people to work and also expand the economic base of generating revenue instead of relying solely on federal allocation .
According to Engineer Makinde, Oyo state cannot continue to rely on funds generated from crude oil for massive development across board, adding that “Agriculture will be his number one cardinal focus, as the state is blessed with massive resources , hence deploying the resources generated to things that will bring benefits to the state .”
The PDP governorship candidate The PDP governorship candidate added that his government plans to reduce poverty amongst residents which fuels violence ,will engage the unemployed youth population with a focus to unlock hidden potential spread across the state.
Speaking earlier at a debate organized by the Oyo state farmers Association, Engineer Makinde promised to revamp farm settlements across the state and that his administration will improve the lots of farmers in the state.
Engineer Makinde emphasized that he will ensure that necessary infrastructures will be put in place to ensure that Oyo state farmers productivity are raised to International standard.
