In celebration of the International Day of the Girl, social impact leader and UNICEF Nigeria Young Influencer, Lois Oladeji, has unveiled a powerful new video project titled “What Happens When Girls Get the Mic”, featuring four teenage girls from Saki, Oyo State, who are sharing their dreams, views on leadership, and visions for change.
The initiative, part of her broader campaign, ‘The Girl I Am; The Change I Lead’, seeks to amplify young girls’ voices, giving them a platform to discuss issues that matter most to them while redefining what leadership looks like for the next generation.
In the video, the girls, all under the age of 18, speak about leadership, empowerment, and education, reflecting the challenges and aspirations of young Nigerian girls in underserved communities.
Their words highlight the message that leadership is not limited by age or gender but defined by courage and purpose.
One of the participants expressed her ambition vividly: “I have not seen a female president in Nigeria before, and I would love to be.”
Another shared, “I want to empower more girls to take up leadership roles.”
According to the convener, the goal of the project is to encourage girls to recognize the power of their voices and to inspire a generation that leads fearlessly.
Oladeji, who has consistently championed youth empowerment and gender equality, believes that change begins when young people are given the tools and the platform to speak for themselves.
