Veteran journalist and public relations practitioner Lekan Alabi, a senior chief of Ibadanland, died Saturday in Lagos.
He was 76.
His death was confirmed in a statement from Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan.
Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan, served as Chief Press Secretary to several former governors of the old Oyo State and was widely regarded for his decades-long contributions to journalism, public relations, and the preservation of Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
President Bola Tinubu marked Alabi’s 75th birthday in October 2025, describing him as a distinguished professional whose work left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s media and civic landscape.
Family members said Alabi will be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
