The League Of Women Voters Of Nigeria (NILOWV), Oyo State chapter, on Thursday, completed a two-day courtesy visit to relevant stakeholders in commemoration of the organization’s 25th national anniversary.
The Oyo state former chairperson of the League Of Women Voters Of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Adenike Victor Tade, popularly known as Mama Empowerment, while speaking on the working visits, explained that courtesy visits to some top government officials were to show the NILOWV unending support to the government and also to create awareness about what the organization for the benefit of mankind.
She continued by saying that the organization is keen on ensuring the active participation of women in Nigeria in national development.
“We need to start building creative and hardworking women because building a better Nigeria is not only about gender but both genders which mean, we women are inclusive” she concluded.
The organization started the tour with a visitation to the office of the state commissioner for women affairs and social inclusion, Hon. Kafila Olayiwola, who appreciated the NILOWV, noted that she was elated to have the organization around.
The commissioner encouraged NILOWV to keep up enlightening the women on the importance of voting as it is their power and contribution to national development.
On behalf of the commissioner, the permanent secretary, Mrs. Christiana Abioye, further charges the organization to mentor other women and mentor them rightly.
”We need women in the realm of political affairs in which we charge the organization to keep enlightening the female gender to engage and participate in politics as they are cogent factors in nation-building. I implore you to mentor women and do it right to keep them on the right track.”
In her remarks, the chairperson, League of Women Voters Of Nigeria (NILOWV), Mrs. Morenike Ahmed Adeniran, stressed that the organization’s silver jubilee celebration will be celebrated in Benin, Edo state followed by a conference in Abuja which is why the Oyo state chapter of NILOWN deemed it fit to visit government officials who have partnered and supported the organization ever since its inception, as a means of showing gratitude for their support and to further strengthen the relationship they shared.
While advising other women, Mrs. Morenike implored women to go for the continuous voter registration as it is the power they hold.
“Women should join politics and shun apathy because we are important in the development of our community and our country at large. We need to take part in governance because that is where the power to make a change lies.”
The state coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment, Mrs. Olayinka Olayoole, while promising to support the organization, commended the NILOWV effort and assured them of subsequent support and partnership in the nearest future.
Nigerian league of women voters (NILOWV), established 25 years ago is a Nigerian civic organization that was formed to help women take a larger role in public affairs.
