The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has picked women’s rights advocate and National Welfare Officer of Afenifere, Oluwatoyin Olufunke Falade, as its candidate for the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Falade, a prominent figure in civic and democratic advocacy in Oyo State, formally declared her intention over the weekend, saying she is running to deliver “a better-governed Ibadan Northwest/Southwest where priorities are given to the people, beyond rhetoric.”
With a reputation built around institutional reform, welfarism, social development, and inclusive governance, Falade said her campaign will focus on gender equity, youth inclusion, and grassroots empowerment.
“The Alternative for Good Governance in Ibadan Northwest/Southwest is SDP,” she told journalists.
“The Alternative is Here. Good Governance for Nigeria. Join the Social Democratic Party in building a Nigeria that works for all – with social justice, true federalism, and youth inclusion.”
Falade, who serves as National Welfare Officer of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere, is described by supporters as a “movement-backed candidate” whose strength lies in administrative experience, civic credibility, and deep community networks across gender and youth platforms.
Beyond policy advocacy, she has a long record of grassroots political empowerment and support for the downtrodden. She was actively involved in mobilization efforts that supported the emergence of the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi as Governor of Oyo State.
In her declaration message, Falade listed market women, widows, traders, youths, children and the aged as her priority.
“Our mothers in Agbokojo, Oke-Ado, Aleshinloye, Orita-merin, Ogunpa, Ifeleye, Agbaje, Dugbe, Gege, Agbeni, Ekotedo and other markets, the time for change in narrative and good representation is here,” she said.
“A vote for SDP is a vote for better governance to the benefit of the unborn generations and ourselves. It is a duty we owe ourselves and our children.”
