The president of the Ibadan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Sir Sola Abodunrin has condemned the uncontrolled taste for foreign products by Nigerians.
Sir Abodunrin made the condemnation during a courtesy call by the executives of the chamber on the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan on Thursday.
He stated that The Polytechnic, Ibadan and similar institutions should be supported to lead the industrial revolution of the country, lamenting that it is a great embarrassment when things that could be produced in Nigeria are imported to meet our local needs.
He commended the management of The Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan for producing ventilators, automatic handwashing machines, hand sanitizers and face masks pointing out that the chamber would serve as apostle of propagation of the products to further encourage the institution.
Sir Abodunrin who appreciated the corporate membership of the chamber by The Polytechnic, Ibadan observed that at this period, the country needed to conserve foreign exchange, hence an institution like
The Polytechnic, Ibadan should be encouraged to invent and produce some of the imported materials that we use in this country.
He said the partnership of the chamber and The Polytechnic, Ibadan would assist in the industrial and commercial development of the country.
In his remark, the Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi noted that there was the need to close the seeming gap between the academic world and industries to achieve the required industrial development.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration between The Polytechnic, Ibadan and The Chamber will yield the desired result.
