A former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala and some lawmakers on Friday condoled with Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the people of Oyo State over the death of Hon. Michael Adeyemo, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
They expressed their condolences in separate statements made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Friday.
Alao-Akala said the news of Adeyemo’s death came to him as a rude shock.
He described Adeyemo as a good leader who brought members of the Assembly together to make the state peaceful and governance easy for Ajimobi.
He said: “Though painful, but Adeyemo’s death should be a lesson to all of us. Only God knows what will happen the next moment. We should all do good and move closer to our creator.”
Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, the Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber-crime, also commiserated with Ajimobi, the State Assembly and the entire people of the state over Adeyemo’s death.
Buhari who postponed the inauguration of his projects scheduled to hold on Saturday as a mark of honour for the late speaker, described Adeyemo’s death as rude, shocking and devastating, adding that death was inevitable for all mortals.
He said: “He was a good and humble man. His peace-loving character is evident in his leadership style and relationship with other arms of the government.’’
The lawmaker called on God to grant his children, relatives as well as extended and political family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Hon. Abiodun Olasupo and Hon. Temitope Olatoye said Adeyemo’s death was an irreparable loss.
The duo in their separate statements, said the incident was shocking and unbelievable, adding that Adeyemo was a young promising politician.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, also expressed shock over the sudden death of Adeyemo, saying he died at his prime.
The NUJ stated that Adeyemo’s death was worrisome, adding it came on the heels of the clamour for power shift to the youths from the older generation.
Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao, AD chieftain, also expressed condolence to the Oyo State government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, the Adeyemo family, people of Lanlate and Ibarapa in general and the entire people of the Pacesetter State on the sudden and untimely demise of the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Michael Adeyemo.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to Insideoyo.com, he said the sad news of the passing of the chief lawmaker came as a rude shock.
“His death is clearly an irreparable loss to not only his immediate family but also to the State as a whole.
“The Holy Scripture, in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 exhorts us “…concerning them who are asleep (dead) that we sorrow not like others who have no hope.”
In the same vein, Seyi Makinde, a PDP chieftain in Oyo State, also described Adeyemo’s sudden demise as devastating and a rude shock.
Makinde, in a statement by his aide, Dotun Oyelade, commiserated with the people of the state, the governor, lawmakers and his immediate family.
He described Adeyemo as a good ambassador of Ibarapa zone, seasoned lawyer and an astute administrator who managed the House of Assembly without rancour for nearly three years.
Makinde said Adeyemo left the political scene when his political knowledge and experience in lawmaking and politicking would be greatly missed.
He prayed that God would grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss and grant him eternal rest.
Similarly, Alhaji Olayide Abas and Dr Olusola Ayandele, all APC Chieftains from Ibarapa zone, described Adeyemo’s death as a colossal loss to the nation.
The duo, in separate statements, expressed sadness over Adeyemo’s demise, saying he was the pride of Ibarapaland and a beacon of hope to the younger generation in the country.
