Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, visited Alaafin Of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
The visit, InsideOyo.com gathered that it may not be unconnected to reports that the Mobile Police base was relocated by Governor Makinde from Oyo town to Ago-Are.
But Makinde, through his media aide, Taiwo Adisa, had denied insinuations, describing it as unfounded, false and a misrepresentation of the true situation.
“You will recall that on September 1, 2019, the South-West Governors held a security summit in Ibadan, which was attended by the Inspector General of Police.
“Governor Makinde, had, on that occasion thanked the IGP for approving a Mobile Squadron base for Oke-Ogun, which he said would enhance food security and the help the state’s desire to rally agriculture to jumpstart its economy.
“It is instructive to note that the letter being paraded on social media made no reference to Governor Makinde and was neither copied to the governor.
On the other side, the people of Oyo town had accused Governor Seyi Makinde of allegedly behind the relocation of the Mobile Police Squadron (MOP 73) to Ago Are town instead of Oyo town as purportedly approved by the Police Service Commission
The lawmaker representing Oyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Akeem Adeyemi insisted that the new Mobile Police Squadron 73 was approved to be sited in Oyo town and not in Ago Are.
According to Honourable Adeyemi, it was the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi that requested for the establishment of a Mobile Police Squadron with its headquarters in Oyo town in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari dated Dec,02, 2019 .
The lawmaker pointed out that the Alaafin’s request was subsequently granted by President Buhari as contained in a letter dated January ,13, 2020 listing the 6 proposed Mobile Police Squadron approved in which the first of the new MP squadron was listed to be sited in Oyo town, Oyo state.
He stressed that , the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in a letter of appreciation to President Buhari dated 14/2/2020 expressed gratitude on behalf of the Oyomesi, and the people of Oyo on the sitting of the Mobile Police Squadron with its headquarters in Oyo town.
