Oyo lawmaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, representing Ibarapa East constituency, has urged the federal government to to take swift action in rescuing the nation from various challengings confronting the country.
He said he is very sad with recent happenings in the country and commiserate with the families of deceased souls across the country.
Ogundoyin stated this in the wake of Bodija crisis while led to the fraca between butchers and officers of the Nigerian Police Force here in Ibadan on Thursday, where lives and properties were lost.
In a statement signed by Hammed Jimoh, member of his media team and made available to insideoyo.com on Friday, the newly inaugurated lawmaker charged citizens to take active role in safeguarding their lives, saying “it belongs to us and with it.”
“I am very sad with the recent happenings in the country. I understand the pain every Nigerians are
passing through, we are initially glooming over the new revelation that our nation has overtaken India to be the country with the highest index of poor. We were hopeful that if our leaders come together with sincerity of purpose, the economy of our nation would turn around and that the giant of Africa in us will rise again. We believe if there is life, there is hope but do we still have the life?
“Last weekend, we heard about Jos massacre where over hundred people were killed with no tangible excuse given for such inhumane act. Just yesterday, there was fraca between butchers and officers of the Nigerian Police Force here in our state and lives and properties were lost. The same day, a pump motor spirit (PMS) filled tanker was involved in an accident in Lagos and several lives and properties worth billions of Naira were lost.”
“While I commiserate with the families of the deceased souls, I want to say the challenge facing our nation now is multi-faceted and such challenge needs a multiple solution and way forward.”
“As we are hoping that the government in-charge would be swift in rescuing our nation from these challenges we are facing, it is needful that we orientate ourselves on ways to maintain peaceful coexistence so as to reduce death coming from religious, political or ethnic background.
“It is also important that we take active role in safeguarding our lives because it belongs to us and with it. We can change this country and make it a better place to live.”
“It is habitual that we pray as Nigerians and I will implore us not to relent. In conclusion, let us sensitize ourselves, take active role and pray,” he concluded.
