In line with his educational development agenda, the founder of Hassan Olawale Giwa (HOG) Foundation, Arc (Dr.) Hassan Giwa has rewarded some teachers in Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments to commemorate the 2022 World Teachers’ Day.
The philanthropic gesture programme, which is the first of its kind was held at HOG Foundation’s Office, Iwo-Road, Ibadan on Thursday.
Speaking during the presentation of the cash reward to the beneficiary teachers, which were 50 in number, Arc Giwa, said that the gesture is to encourage teachers in the state for their immense contributions to the development of the nation and upbringing of the young ones.
The Ibadan born businessman disclosed that in order to raise the bar of education in Oyo State and Nigeria at large, teachers must be encouraged and motivated to be able to discharge their duties and deploy their full potentials to impact knowledge to the lives of the young ones.
The HOG Foundation founder stated that the foundation has been contributing to the development of education over the years.
He highlighted that the foundation has succeeded in the payments of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fee of not less than 100 students in the last two years, renovated schools, distributed writing materials and uniforms for pupils in the primary school category.
He noted that the foundation has also contributed to other sectors such as health, sports and has engaged several people in different vocations.
‘Through the HOG Foundation, we have paid examination fees of students in terminal classes such as primary six and SS3. In the last two years, we have paid WAEC fees for not less than 100 students in Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments. We have recorded achievements in the renovation of several dilapidated school buildings and provided chairs and tables where necessary. At HOG Foundation, we have given out uniforms to countless numbers of pupils in the primary school category and distributed over 100,000 exercise books to aid learning.”
“The decision to appreciate the teachers is to motivate them to do more. They have been doing great work and they need motivation to put in more effort to fully deploy their potentials to impact knowledge in the lives of the young ones. I believe this is the appropriate time to show them the love, to honour and celebrate with them and importantly to commemorate the Annual World Teachers’ Day,” Giwa said.
The Founder of HOG Foundation described teachers as indispensable individuals whose impact in nation building through impartation of knowledge and transfer of societal norms in the country can not be overlooked.
Arc Giwa, therefore, called on well meaning people in the country not to leave the welfare of teachers to the government alone, saying that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to motivate the teachers in order to have a better society.
Speaking on behalf of teachers, Mr. Adegoke Olaolu and Mr. Waheed Akintunde, appreciated the good gesture extended to them by Arc Hassan Giwa, praying that almighty God will continue to be with him and bless his ways.
They expressed that this is the first time teachers will be honoured and appreciated by a single individual without being politically motivated.
They promised to continue to discharge their duties diligently to promote sound and quality education in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
