The vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor idowu Olayinka is in the news for the wrong reason and it is fast trending on the social media.
Replying to comment by a former students’ union president, Babatunde Badmus, who had said he would be a better Abacha, on his Facebook page, Olayinka vented his anger, an action which many have criticised.
Though it has been deleted, Olayinka had in the purported message on Facebook, published by insideoyo.com, alleged the immediate past students’ union president, Aderemi Ojo, of planning to disrupt the second semester examinations which start tomorrow.
Not happy with the tone of the post, Badmus had replied him saying, “imagine the posture from a vice chancellor of my own prestigious University of Ibadan. THE TONE OF THIS WRITE UP shows that the vice chancellor will be a better ABACHA. Can you suspend ASUU, NASU and other staff unions?”
Few minutes later, an obviously provoked Olayinka replied BB as the fondly students’ leader is fondly called: “your father and forbears are descendants of Abacha.”
Rather than be provoked, BB asked the VC: “Mr Vice Chancellor Sir. Please don’t go vulgar just answer the questions above.”
