Sensational Fuji singer, Taye Akande Adebisi has reacted to the ongoing controversy on Barrister’s role in the creation of fuji music.
According to Taiye Currency, as he fondly called, he cannot really say much because he started music in 1992. “I cannot really say anything about the origin of fuji music. Anybody who is over 40 years old is supposed to be sensible and I’m already over 40 so I have to be careful with whatever I say. I have elders in the industry and they are in the right position to talk about this,” he argued.
He, however, said that “I don’t believe that K1 is totally wrong. I once sang a song that we should be thankful to the people who have uplifted fuji such as Barrister, Kollington and K1 because without their efforts, we wouldn’t be here today. Those people have really tried and Barrister is indeed a legend. I can only say what I know. I am about four generations after Barrister.
“Before Barrister died, K1 wrote a book and Barrister also wrote a book so it’s apparent that they both know a lot about the origin of fuji. The relationship between them is like that of a father and son. We that came after them are just enjoying the benefits. Anybody that says K1 is lying should go and face him to say so. And anybody who feels K1 is saying the truth should also go to him. If you listen to K1 and the people disagreeing with him very well, you would know who is being truthful and who is being dishonest. Some people speaking against K1 may be doing so out of envy and rivalry.
“This issue is really nobody’s business. Barrister and K1 were together till he died and it’s only K1 that knows what happened while serving Barrister. K1 once told me that after God almighty, Barrister is his next god. I was shocked and I asked him why he said that. He replied that what we are enjoying now is the fruit of what Barrister had done earlier, so you can see he really appreciates Barrister. In my own opinion, K1 did not disrespect Barrister. I had my first child at the age of 19 years; this means that by the time I’m 60 (K1’s current age), my child would be as old as I am now, so you can see that K1 is like a father to me and I cannot say that he is lying. But I believe that if you don’t get close to K1, you wouldn’t know the kind of person he is. I don’t want whatever I say to be misconstrued to mean that I’m on K1’s side,” he explained.
