Senator Kola Balogun has called on the Transition Company of Nigeria (TCN) to intervene and put an end to poor power supply at Apete, Ajibode, Awotan and Akufo communities in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The federal lawmaker, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District at National Assembly, said TCN should also see to regular power supply in other arts of his senatorial district and the state in general.

Balogun, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, in letter to the Managing Director,  Transition Company of Nigeria, said: “It is pathetic that our people have to go through a whole lot of challenges which was expressed in their letter addressed to me and dated April 9th, 2021.

“Kindly use your good offices to grant their request which are clearly stated in the penultimate paragraph of the letter.”

The residents had, through the Community Developmental Association (CDA), written a letter to express their displeasure to the attitude of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in respect of power supply in the affected communities.

In the letter signed by the chairman, and secretary, Engineer Rasaq Fabayo and Alhaji Ajadi Oladeji, the residents claimed that efforts to seek to dialogue with the IBEDC Management about the poor electricity supply in the affected communities proved abortive, noting that nothing has been done concerning their complaints till date.

The letter further reads: “Our findings has revealed that there are over 100 transformers on our feeder, instead of 25 which is against the regulation.

“In establishing our fact and our position on this matter, we hereby attach the letter written to IBEDC and the updates on how power is being supplied to the communities on a daily basis.

“As cultured communities of Ajibode, Apete, Awotan, Araromi, Akufo, Jeje and environs, we do not want conflict before resolution is attained.

“Sir, in alleviating these challenges, we look forward to you, using your good offices to help facilitate the activation and the use of NIPP transformers that has long been abandoned by the Federal Government.

“In the light of the above, we humbly request that you should use your good office and power vested ony youas a senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria to facilitate the following:

“Provision of more feeders in order to have stable power supply; provision of more transformers to the communities; metering of all unmetered houses in the communities, in accordance with the regulations of the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission;

“Stoppage of over-billing, otherwise known in local parlance as “Crazy Bill”; and regularisation of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) meters.”
