The Chairman of Iwajowa Local Government, Hon. Oyewumi Muritala Abiodun (Natural), has described the recent attacks against Governor Seyi Makinde and his administration as a sponsored campaign of calumny by the rejected opposition in the council.
Hon. Oyewumi, in a statement personally signed and issued through his media team on Wednesday, said the campaign was malicious, infantile and an insult to the intelligence of the good people of Iwajowa who are daily beneficiaries of good governance.
“Our attention has been drawn to the sponsored campaign targeted at my leader, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde and my person. It is not only an attack on two performing leaders but an insult on our people who see and feel good governance daily,” the chairman said.
He said the opposition in Iwajowa, having lost woefully at the polls and being bankrupt of ideas, now hires external mercenaries from outside Oke-Ogun zone to attack his administration.
“In their desperation, they went outside Oke-Ogun to hire people who know nothing about our land to write sponsored nonsense. Instead of facing the people whose mandate they lost, they now rent emergency activists,” Oyewumi stated.
The chairman said Governor Makinde’s people-first leadership and fatherly support has empowered local governments like Iwajowa to thrive, adding that his administration has in 29 months delivered unmatched legacy since the creation of the council on December 4, 1996.
According to him, while the opposition is busy in beer parlours sharing expired lies, his administration is on the field translating Governor Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0 Sustainable Development Agenda into legacy projects.
Hon. Oyewumi listed his achievements to include total renovation of PHCs and construction of staff quarters at Itasa and Iwere-Ile, facilitation of PHC projects at Okeafin, Ayede, Ajase, Elekokan and Ayegun-Wasimi, construction of ultra-modern abattoir at Oke-Adura, Iganna, construction of police station at Ilaji-Ile – the first ever police presence in the community, Amotekun office at Iwere-Ile with two motorcycles, solar lights for four police divisions, and sustenance of monthly security meetings.
Others are total renovation of the Chairman’s office abandoned by the immediate past administration, construction of the Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs building – first befitting chamber for royal fathers in the council’s history, acquisition of 27.38 hectares for Governor Seyi Makinde Restoration Estate, construction of 3 classrooms at Community Grammar School, Iganna, reconstruction of culverts, dredging of Agbua River, grading of rural roads, provision of motorized boreholes, and scholarships for 25 indigenes to Technical University and College of Nursing and Midwifery, among others.
He also cited the historic MoU signed with 11 communes of the Republic of Benin on August 18, 2025 in Cotonou, and the 30th anniversary celebration of Iwajowa Local Government on October 5, 2026, the first of its kind in Oyo State.
“I throw an open challenge to any former chairman in the 30-year history of Iwajowa to come out with one verifiable record that matches what we have achieved in 29 months under the purposeful leadership of Governor Makinde,” he said.
Hon. Oyewumi urged well-meaning sons and daughters of Iwajowa, royal fathers, market women, youths and farmers to disregard the sponsored calumny, describing it as the last kick of a dying horse.
“I will not be distracted. Under the leadership of His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, the work continues and Iwajowa will have more,” the chairman added.
