The lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, has empowered 50 People Living With Disabilities (PWDs) with deep freezers and cash prizes to support their businesses and enhance their livelihoods.
The event, which was held at the Local Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, saw the lawmaker reaffirm his commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in his constituency.
In his address, Hon. Agboworin emphasized the importance of the initiative in alleviating poverty and reducing dependency among PWDs.
“This empowerment program is just a step toward a broader goal. We are working on next year’s budget to ensure that more empowerment initiatives are included, especially for people with disabilities,” he stated.
Barr. Ayodele Adekanbi, the Director-General of the Oyo State Agency for People Living With Disabilities, commended Hon. Agboworin for his efforts, urging other leaders to replicate such initiatives to alleviate the challenges faced by vulnerable groups. He also advised the beneficiaries to use the resources wisely to build sustainable businesses.
The Oyo State Director of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mrs. Steve Ogundipe Olayinka, congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged them to leverage the empowerment for self-reliance.
She praised Hon. Agboworin for his vision and dedication to improving the lives of his constituents.
The PDP Secretary in Oyo State, Hon. Wasiu Adeleke, described the lawmaker as a representative who consistently delivers on his promises.
Also present at the event were Hon. Dare Adeleke, a PDP chieftain in Oyo State; Hon. Seun Olufade, Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government; and representatives of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, who lent their support to the empowerment initiative.
Other notable attendees included stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, leaders from Ibadan North-East and South-East Local Government Areas, and members of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Adeniyi Olufemi, one of the recipients, described the support as a significant boost to his income, stating that it would aid in achieving financial independence.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Bose Adekunle, commended the effort, noting that the assistance would enable her to establish her business and improve her family’s livelihood. She expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Agboworin for the impactful gesture.
The presentation of deep freezers and cash grants to the beneficiaries was conducted by Hon. Agboworin, alongside Barr. Ayodele Adekanbi and other prominent leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
