Butchers at Bodija abattoir in Ibadan, Oyo State have staged a protest to the state secretariat over the demolition of structures at their abattoir.
The protesters in their numbers carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘Eyin ara ilu e gba wa o’ ‘ APC, butchers vote you to power, don’t let us vote your party out’ and ‘APC ni apapo e gba wa o’
One of the protesters, who spoke on behalf of others, Mr Tunji Jigan lamented that the abattoir was destroyed at the weekend and they had come to let the government know about the incident.
Speaking on the directive by the state government that all butchers relocate to the new central abattoir at Amosun village, Mr Jigan noted that the case was already in court and government should allow the court give verdict before asking them to relocate.
Radio Nigeria correspondent, who was at the scene reports that appeals from security personnel and government officials to the butchers to assign representatives to meet with government representatives initially proved abortive before they later succumbed.
Addressing the protesters, Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo assured them that the case would be presented to the Governor and subsequent meeting with butcher’s representatives would be initiated for amicable resolution.
Meanwhile, the state government had urged the butchers to exercise patience while the case was being looked into.
