A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Olusola Owolabi, has denied allegations linking him to an alleged plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, insisting that he remains loyal to the administration.
Owolabi, who represents Ibadan North-East State Constituency II described the claims as false and orchestrated to tarnish his image, stressing that he had no involvement in any meeting or discussion aimed at removing the governor from office.
“I want to state clearly that I am not part of any impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde. The allegations are completely false and should be disregarded by the public,” he said.
The lawmaker also addressed reports alleging that he attended a meeting convened by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, where plans to impeach the governor were allegedly discussed.
“I wish to state categorically and for the record that I was never part of any meeting called by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to discuss the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde. I have the utmost respect for our traditional institutions, but I am not a party to any agenda that seeks to truncate the progress we have achieved under this administration,” he said.
Owolabi further dismissed reports of a high-level political meeting allegedly held in Lagos and said to have been hosted by Florence Ajimobi, where discussions were purportedly centred on influencing the Oyo State House of Assembly.
“At no point was I in Lagos for any political meeting relating to impeachment or destabilisation of the government. These stories are pure fiction and the handiwork of mischief-makers bent on creating unnecessary tension in the state,” he said.
The lawmaker also reacted to claims that the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, was involved in the alleged meeting, insisting that he had no knowledge of such arrangements and was never part of any gathering of that nature.
He, however, noted that the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, was mentioned in connection with the meeting, adding that any individual’s actions should not be generalised to the entire Assembly.
“Whatever meeting anyone attended does not represent the position of all of us. As lawmakers, we are guided by the mandate of our constituents and the Constitution,” he said.
Addressing rumours of financial inducement, Owolabi described as “laughable” claims that lawmakers were being offered between N250m and N1bn to support an impeachment plot, stressing that such allegations were both false and insulting.
“The people of Oyo State spoke clearly and overwhelmingly when they voted for Governor Seyi Makinde. No amount of money, whether N250m or N1bn, is sufficient to subvert the collective will of the people,” he said.
“My integrity and my commitment to the development of Oyo State far outweigh any pecuniary gain. We are here to serve, not to be bought,” he added.
Reaffirming his support for the administration, Owolabi commended the governor’s “Omituntun 2.0” agenda, noting that it had delivered visible improvements in infrastructure, education, and civil service welfare.
“I remain committed to supporting Governor Makinde and the good work his administration is doing. This is not the time for distractions but for consolidation of the progress we are witnessing,” he said.
He urged residents of the state to ignore what he described as “toxic propaganda” and remain focused on the continued development of Oyo State.
“Oyo State is not for sale, and its peace is not negotiable. I remain a loyal partner in the progress of this state under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde,” Owolabi added
