The Oyo State Councilors’ Forum has declared its unwavering support for Seyi Makinde, dismissing ongoing impeachment rumours as baseless and politically motivated.
In a statement jointly issued by its Chairman, Hon. Oladepo Ayandeji Ala, and Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Salaudeen Kabeer Adebayo, the Forum said it was standing firmly behind the governor, describing him as a leader committed to the growth and stability of the state.
The councillors expressed concern over what they termed “unfounded allegations and distractions” capable of heating up the polity, insisting that such moves do not reflect the will of the people at the grassroots level.
According to the statement, the Forum, which represents councillors across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, reaffirmed its confidence in Makinde’s leadership style, citing his administration’s efforts in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and grassroots governance.
“We, the entire members of the Oyo State Councilors’ Forum, hereby pass a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde. We are fully in support of his administration and will continue to align with his vision for sustainable development across the state,” the statement read.
The Forum further urged political actors to desist from acts capable of destabilising the state, warning that any attempt to truncate the current administration would be resisted by the people, especially those at the grassroots who, according to them, are direct beneficiaries of government policies.
They noted that councillors, being the closest tier of government to the people, are in a strategic position to assess the impact of governance, adding that the achievements recorded under Makinde cannot be ignored.
They also called for calm among residents, assuring that there is no credible threat to the stability of the government, while urging stakeholders to prioritise unity and progress over political scheming.
The Forum also appealed to members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to remain focused on their legislative responsibilities and avoid being drawn into what it described as unnecessary controversies.
The endorsement by the councillors comes amid heightened political tension in the state following allegations of a plot to impeach Governor Makinde, claims that have since been denied by key figures and lawmakers.
Reiterating their loyalty, the councillors maintained that the Makinde-led administration still enjoys broad support across the state and should be allowed to complete its mandate without undue interference.
