Ibadan, Oyo State – In a significant development in the traditional leadership landscape of Oyo State, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja Arusa 1, has been appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas.
The announcement was made by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde FNSE, at a brief ceremony held at the House of Chiefs, Agodi, Ibadan, yesterday, Thursday, 15th of January, 2026.
Mogaji Olufemi Junaid, Mogaji Jinadu Ile Ganga of Itutaba, Ibadan, congratulated Oba Ladoja on his appointment, expressing confidence that his leadership will catalyze development in Oyo State and enhance the progress of the traditional council.
“As Oba Ladoja takes the helm of the Oyo State Council of Obas, we are confident that his leadership will catalyze development in Oyo State and enhance the progress of the traditional council in Oyo State and each local government under its purview,” Mogaji Junaid said.
Mogaji Junaid commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his action, reflecting his adherence to the rule of law and commitment to strengthening traditional institutions.

The Oyo State House of Assembly had passed an amendment to the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs Law on May 20, 2025, making the chairmanship rotational among the Alaafin of Oyo, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Soun of Ogbomoso. This bill was subsequently passed into law on July 29, 2025.
