The Oyo State chapter of the African Action Congress, AAC, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of deceiving residents over a promised surveillance jet, describing his administration as “a government of shame and broken promises.”
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, on Friday, the party said the Governor pledged more than a month ago to deliver the aircraft and, after the abduction of teachers and pupils, promised it would arrive by the end of June. With July now underway and no delivery confirmed, the AAC said Oyo indigenes “are in doubt” about whether the jet was ever purchased.
“For over 11 months, Makinde said the surveillance jet was at the Lagos Air Force base. Immediately after the abduction of the teachers and pupils, he said the jet would be delivered by the end of June. Here we are in July, and nothing has been delivered. We believe it’s all lies,” Babayomi said.
The AAC also linked the issue to other unfulfilled commitments, including the ₦30 billion support fund for victims of the Bodija bomb explosion. It accused the Governor of deflecting accountability on security matters and alleged that residents were being subjected to “lies and propaganda.”
“True leadership is built on trust and accountability, but it is sad that Makinde has lost the people’s trust and lacks the accountability needed to lead the state through its current security dilemma,” the statement added.
The party issued a seven-day ultimatum for the government to provide the surveillance jet or for the Governor to resign, warning of “mass resistance” if the demand is not met.
“We in Oyo State state categorically that the Makinde government should provide the surveillance jet within seven days or face mass resistance, or he should resign completely,” Babayomi said.
As of press time, the Oyo State Government had not responded to the allegations.
