Over three hundred senior citizens in Oyo state benefited from the Oyo First Lady, Engineer Tamunominini Makinde’s healthcare outreach.
The medical outreach which was held on Wednesday, in Ibadan the Oyo state capital was done through her foundation, Omituntun for Life Foundation with support from United Bank of Africa and Medplus.
While speaking, Mrs Makinde said having extended hands of support to women, widows, young girls and less privileges across the state, it’s the turn of the senior citizens.
She said that they deserve to be loved and cherished because behind every aged face, there is a remarkable journey.
Her words: “Let’s celebrate our parents because not everyone can make it so far, for those that make it so far, I congratulate you and pray that you will eat the fruit of your labour.
“Today, you will be going home with food items, drugs and cash. We want to remind you that you are all loved and cherished, and to know that you are never alone.
“You will all be going home with proper medical check up and advice. Always listen to what doctors and health practitioners say. Ensure you take your medication regularly and endeavor to go for periodic check-up at the hospital.
“Go for medical check-up and avoid foods with high calories and cholesterol that your body can no longer burn them as they used to. Sleep well and most importantly, move to God, as human, the sun can set anytime, so, it is important to move closer to God. Spend quality time with your children and grand children.
“Embrace modern technology to stay connected to programs through video calls and social media that can enhance your daily lives positively.”
She thanked the Oyo State government led by Governor Seyi Makinde for supporting her office over the success of the program.
She commended Governor Makinde for regular payment of pensioners which according to her has shown that the Governor holds pensioners in the state in high exteem.
While reacting, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State, Comrade Olusegun Abatan thanked the Governor’s wife for the gesture
He said this is the first time in the history of Western Region where the Wife of the State Governor would find Pensioners worthy of being invited to a health care program.
He said the gesture speaks volumes, describing it as an extension of love and compassion Governor Makinde has been extending to Pensioners since he became the Governor of the State.

The event had in attendance the Head of Service (HOS), Mrs Olubunmi Oni, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Toyin Balogun, and Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni and others.
Senior citizens at the programme were attended to by medical practitioners, who ran various tests for them, including blood sugar, blood pressure, and others. They were given various drugs as needed. Also, food items and cash gifts were given to them.
