Wife of popular Fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere, Alhaja Hon. Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun Akande (Eruobodo 1), has declared her intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Adelakun made her declaration at St. Cyprian Primary School, Ibadan, where party members, women groups, and supporters gathered to witness the announcement.
Speaking during the event, the aspirant said her decision to join the race was driven by her passion for people and desire to provide quality representation.
“I am a people-oriented person. I love to be with people, to represent them, and to speak on their behalf. That is the motivation behind this ambition,” she said.
She assured constituents of people-focused leadership, gender balance, and integrity if elected, noting that her goal is to serve as a strong voice for the people.
Adelakun also pledged to sustain her humanitarian efforts through her foundation, particularly in supporting women and the girl-child, stressing that her commitment to giving predates her political ambition.
“I am a natural giver. Even before deciding to contest, I have always supported people. My care for women and the girl-child will continue because they remain a priority,” she added.
In her remarks, the Oyo State APC Women Leader, Felicia Opatunde, described the declaration as a welcome development, encouraging more women to participate actively in politics.
She noted that increased female participation in governance would strengthen democracy and improve representation.
“For a long time, women have been marginalised. More women coming out to contest is encouraging and good for our democracy,” she said.
Opatunde also urged eligible citizens to register and participate in the electoral process, emphasising that active involvement remains key to shaping governance.
She further called on women across the state to mobilise and participate in large numbers, noting that their voting strength could influence positive change.
