The management of the Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC, has stated that the football club is yet to relegate from the premier division of Nigeria league.
The Ibadan side which lost 0-2 to Niger Tornadoes on Saturday in Lokoja finished their campaign on the seventeen position on the league table, making it one of the four teams to be relegated to the second division, NNL.
But the management of the Oluyole Warriors has claimed that the team is yet to relegate following the inconclusiveness of a deciding game between Gombe United and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
The game was stopped abruptly at the 26th minute of the game, after the home fans threw missiles at players and officials and also encroached the field of play.
Before the game was halted, Wikki Tourists were leading by a lone goal scored by a Gombe United player Maurice Chihozie, who headed ball into his own net at the 23rd minute of the abandoned match.
The score line of the game put 3SC at a disadvantaged position with Wikki Tourists, which was previously behind them, leapfrogging them and moved up to sixteenth position.
However, with Gombe/Wikki game yet to be completed and the League Management Company yet to decide, the 3SC management said they are awaiting the outcome of the game with the hope that things might turned to their favour.
The reactions of 3SC management to their reported relegation was contained in a press statement issued out by the club’s Media Officer, Jubril Arowolo.
“The entire Shooting Stars FC appreciate the concerns of all about our 0-2 loss to #NigerTornadoes yesterday but we still await the final outcome of Gombe United-Wikki abandoned tie ( the game was disrupted in 27 minutes of play) before our final standing. On a clear term, we are not relegated yet, thanks.”
